Kitchen and Bath Show 2018 - Day Three
We have reached the end of my tales from the amazing Kitchen and Bath Show. Bet you thought we'd never get here!
On the third and final day, I had the honor of participating on a panel and we visited our last vendor (last, but about as far as you can get from least) Mr. Steam.
This visit was one of the most interesting for me because I have to admit, up to this point I knew nothing about steam showers. I have never installed a steam shower for a client and I'm sorry to say I had no idea about all of the benefits of steam because I'm big on learning about lesser known methods for staying healthy. I have to tell you, I was so impressed with Mr. Steam's history, the quality of their products and their many offerings!
First, a bit about the company. Mr. Steam has been in business since 1917. Arthur Sussman first created a steam iron for garment factories, and with continued innovation, has become the largest manufacturer of electric steam boilers in the world.
Now under the leadership of president, Michael Pinkus, the company continues to re-imagine the commercial and residential spa experience. Mr. Steam offers high tech swipe-touch controls, advanced steam shower generators and systems, soothing AromaTherapy and ChromaTherapy, and luxurious towel warmers. Every single one of their products is designed to boost health and well-being... and the good-for-you benefits come in the form of products that make you feel amazing too!
What exactly is a steam shower, you ask? Well, it starts with a steam generator, typically no bigger than a briefcase that heats the water. No space is too small for a steam shower. Mr. Steam offers models ranging from standard shower sizes to more luxuriously-sized enclosures. Heated to 110 degrees, the water creates steam that enters the shower enclosure or steam room by way of steam heads. The steam fills the space while you relax and unwind for 10 to 20 minutes. Mr. Steam recommends following up with a refreshing shower. Then, for a true spa experience, wrap yourself in a towel heated by one of their towel warmers. Now doesn't that sound nice? And all in the comfort of your own home!
So what exactly are the benefits of a steam shower? There are so many that the list below is by no means comprehensive, but it's a handful of my favorites:
Improves breathing, opens up nasal passages related to symptoms of allergies and viruses
Hot mist helps to promote sinus drainage and to loosen bronchial secretions
Warm mist helps decrease symptoms of croup
Acts as a natural expectorant
Hydrates the skin
Increases blood circulation
Helps to reinvigorate tired muscles
Removes lactic acid from over worked muscles
Increases muscular flexibility
On average, burns 150 calories in a 15-minute session at 114 degrees F
Promotes deep, restful sleep
Removes toxins from the body
Helps the body get rid on excess sodium
Rids the body of metabolic and other waste products
For you moms with little ones, wouldn't it be nice to have a steam shower when your sweet babies are sick?
How do you select the perfect steam shower for your home? The space's construction materials, size (including ceiling height) and special design features such as large slab areas, all affect which steam generator model is right for your space. You will need to know what materials are in your current shower as these will affect your generator size, which is the key to successfully operating a steam shower. To find out what size generator you will need for your shower, you can use this handy tool.
Mr. Steam's website offers a nifty online tool, Virtual Spa, that will help you design your own steam spa and become familiar with pricing, finishes, and sizing, as well as all towel warmer options.
Check out this patent-pending Linear SteamHead! Unlike conventional steam heads that protrude into the shower and deliver steam from a single point, the Linear Steamhead is set flush to the shower wall and is contained almost entirely behind the wall. They're bringing sexy back to the steam shower!
So, have I convinced you yet on the wonderful benefits of the steam shower? I am ready to get one for my home - how about you?!
