Valentines Day all Year Long
Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, chocolates, gifts or flowers with their special "valentine." The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but it actually has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia (which wasn't quite as sweet or romantic).
I'm not one for celebrating Valentine's Day in the traditional sense. Typically restaurants are crowded and overpriced, a dozen red roses - while beautiful - are so ordinary and if I never see another box of Whitman's Samplers, I won't mind!
Instead, my take on this lovers' holiday is that its sentiments should be observed every day of the year. There should never be a day that goes by when you don't tell your loved one how much they mean to you. Maybe that includes an extra long hug; a special love note secretly tucked into your honey's suitcase as they leave on a business trip; running a hot bubble bath with a glass of champagne for your sweetie after a long, hard day; or cooking up a special dinner with candlelight and soft jazz, just because.
It's the little things all year long that really do mean the most.
Now, if you are partial to buying your loved one a present on Valentine's Day or need a little inspiration for gifts throughout the year, here are a few items that might inspire some passion in your girl.
An edgy piece of art will add some extra cool to her decor:
A modern Venetian glass vase will complement her impeccable taste:
A rich, sophisticated handbag like this one will look stunning on her arm and is perfect with any outfit:
What woman could resist a gorgeous pair of shoes like these?
And if you really want to wow your woman...a little bling never hurts!
On the flip side, when it comes to incorporating Valentine's red into your man's wardrobe, a good rule of thumb is that a little goes a long way. Here are a few classics that look good on every man.
You can't go wrong with a traditional red neck tie:
Suspenders are back in fashion, so why not snag a pair in red? By the way, rumor has it a suspenders/beard combo is the ultimate in manly style.
Even the most conservative of dressers can pull off a snazzy pair of red socks like these.
For the man who has a passion for all things automobiles...this is the book for him!
That hard working man deserves a nice briefcase, wouldn't you say?
And for your world traveler...this exquisite watch.
Let's be honest, most chocolates are good; but today's artisan chocolates are truly amazing with their high quality ingredients, trendy flavors and artisitic presentations. Here are a few of my favorite sources for beautiful deliciousness.
Finally, when sending flowers to your love for Valentine's Day, or any day of the year, why not change it up a bit and send something more unique than a dozen red roses? Here are some pretty ideas anyone would love to receive.
Now you're covered for showing your sweetheart some love in original ways on February 14th or any day. Let me know what inspired you and what you plan to get your special someone.
